Presenting the U15 European Championships

Everything is ready for the IBIZA 2022 European U15 Championship, a tournament that will be the closing of two weeks of international badminton on the island of Ibiza. These days is taking place the IBERDROLA Spanish International, an Elite Future Series tournament. This one will be followed by the U15 and U17 International from Friday until Sunday and, finally, from Wednesday 21st will take place the U15 European Championship.

This tournament has already been presented at the Sa Blanca Dona multi-purpose sports hall, the chosen location for the three international events that will be held from September 12th on the island and that will bring together the best badminton from the continent and the world.

The presentation was attended by Salvador Losa, the Councillor for Sports and Youth Affairs, the Ibiza city First Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Sports, Elena López, the President of the Spanish Federation of Badminton, Andoni Azurmendi, and the President of the Balearic Federation of Badminton, Silvia Riera. The event was also attended by the Head Coach of the Spanish team, Ernesto García, and the Technical Director of the FESBA, Arturo Ruiz, who has achieved a remarkable milestone getting two Spanish players to play the men’s doubles final of the IBERDROLA Spanish International.

Losa, López and Azurmendi have celebrated that IBIZA 2022 brings together three top-level events in their different categories, which proves the potential of Ibiza as a sports tourism destination.

Elena López noted that “organizing these tournaments and especially a European Championship follows the trail of what has been done so far in Ibiza. The institutions must support these competitions and we are delighted that all this is happening in Ibiza”.

Losa emphasized “the ability of Ibiza and national badminton to organize events of the highest level’ and that ‘sometimes we are not aware of everything we have in Ibiza and having the opportunity to show it through sport is an honour to us”.

Azurmendi wanted to thank the support of the institutions and also the sponsors, “starting with IBERDROLA, which gives its name to one of the tournaments, and also to the rest of the Federation’s sponsors such as YONEX, El Corte Inglés and Loterías.’ He also highlighted the agreement reached with the Toyota authorised dealer Ebusus, whose support is vital both in terms of reputation, as it is a leading company, as well as in terms of internal logistics of the event”.
